How do I find people who want to buy my art?!

artist websites that build a following

For whatever reason, finding the type of clientele who will appreciate your art style enough to click “add to cart” causes a load of problems. Maybe it’s because you haven't figured out how to convince people... or maybe you're just missing something.

Either way, the number one question in my inbox is “How do I find people who want to buy my art?!”

You’re probably trying this marketing tactic and that marketing tactic, but things don’t seem to be going anywhere.

Here's the good news... If you are posting somewhere regularly and making a valiant effort to get your art into the world, my guess is that you actually HAVE found some of those people. You just haven’t figured out the right words to convince people to buy your art.

Think about it. While you might greatly admire and appreciate 1000 different artists’ work on your Instagram feed, you don’t have the money (or the space!) to buy from each of them.

When you do decide to buy, it will most likely be because:

A) The artist is well known and you’d love to have a piece to show off

B) You feel like you know the artist really well (virtual besties!) and want to support them

C) What the artist says about their art resonates deeply with you, and you want their art as a reminder (in the form of eye candy, of course)

I highly recommend one of these models to help convince people to buy your art.

The first is achievable, but if you are reading this you probably aren't there yet.

I'm a big fan of the second, but I don't offer social media management or write emails for clients (maybe someday...), so you're on your own for now.

But the third... That's where Artist Websites that Build a Following comes in. It will help you talk about your art in a way that clicks in their mind.

The first step of the process is one of my favorites. I help clients put together why they make their art + their personal values + a little magic dust to create a realistic profile of a type of patron who would love to buy.

I'm not talking about those Ideal Customer Avatars that list their age, income and favorite movie. (Although those might be in there too.) I'm talking about factors that drive their decisions & trigger their emotions.

If you know things like "her home is decorated in a Parisian style to make her feel timeless and elegant", you'll start making connections. The next time you come across a picture of Audrey Hepburn, you'll think, "my client is probably a huge fan," and name your next red painting after Audrey's famous quote, "There is a shade of red for every woman."

These types of connections are what will make your art the first to come to mind when they have a wall to fill.

I'd wager this profile alone is worth the price of Artist Websites that Build a Following, but it's just the tip of the iceberg.
